Rammang-Rammang is a landscape area in the form of a cluster of karst mountains located in Salenrang Village, Bontoa District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. This karst area is integrated with the Maros-Pangkep Karst Area. This karst area is now given special protection, because of its natural sustainability conditions. This karst area is located 42.30 km north of Makassar City.
Leang-Leang Archaeological Park (formerly named Leang-Leang Prehistoric Park or Leang-Leang Archaeological Park) is one of the mainstay tourist attractions in Maros and South Sulawesi Regencies which provides educational tours about archeology. The word “Leang-Leang” in the local language (Bugis-Makassar) means “cave”. In this park there are many prehistoric caves that hold unique and interesting archeological remains of early humans. Archaeologists believe that some of the caves in the area were inhabited by humans around 3,000-8,000 BC. Evidence of this existence is marked by prehistoric paintings in the form of a jumping hog, tens of palms on the walls of the cave. There are 5 ancient human palms found in Pettae Cave, there are also 32 palm marks found in Pettae Cave. In addition to prehistoric paintings, there are also sea objects in the form of shells which indicate that the cave was once submerged and surrounded by the sea. Another uniqueness is the existence of a river right in front of the Leang-Leang Cave, limestone outcrops that are scattered in the rice fields of the residents, and the view of Bulusaraung Peak from the top of the cave.
